Soul Contract

As I die, nothing

is sacred,

guitars pluck.

keys dance.

(in-in-incredible)

it’s a light day

sunned sidewalks

carry shadows into the night & I—

half black half child,

allow my mind to decorate space

Allah , please move with me.

wisdom is warfare

but who am I to tell it?

I’m just a woman

writing to my unborn son

from a body fatigued

with survival,

who’s existence

depends on

a persevering thought.

And did you get

what you wanted

from this life, even so?
